NORTH WALES MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY LATEST TO BE ACCUSED OF WORKPLACE BULLYING

So the latest charity here in Wales that’s being accused of workplace bullying is an independent  mental health charity based in Mold called North East Wales Mind (NEW Mind) previously Flintshire Mind.

A former employee has posted her serious concerns on Mind’s Facebook page. She says :

‘I worked at NEW Mind from June 2014-July 2017. I was told to ‘get rid of people’ on a regular basis and to tell people that certain members of staff were unavailable. This Mind is funded by Flintshire County Council who are looking into saving money because of austerity! Cut their budget first and give their jobs to people who actually care for clients. Volunteers were treated abysmally and left regularly – this was reported to the Manager of Flintshire Council. Mind mental health???? It would be funny if it wasn’t wrecking people’s lives. Paul Farmer (Mind CEO in London) did not even have the decency to return an e-mail to me.’

The former employee goes on to say;

‘When I left my job, over 20 clients and more volunteers left with me because of the way they had been treated. These volunteers were treated shockingly and are willing to shout out about it. Many more volunteers have spent time actually sobbing because of the way the Chief Officer  has treated them. Ridiculing them in front of visitors and paying counselling clients. These people are vulnerable and thought that Mind was a safe place. ‘

There have been many concerns that the charity sector here in Wales seems to be a particular hotbed of workplace bullying. Given their dependence on public funding and support it is clear that action is needed to address such bad practice. With more people coming forward with their own experiences the time for change in the workplace has arrived.
